Toronto-based photographer Raquel Simões has been behind the lens for nearly two decades, but their focus goes far beyond simply taking pictures.
As a non-binary lesbian working exclusively with film, instax and polaroid, Raquel creates intimate portraits that celebrate queer sexuality, gender expression, and the raw power of self-confidence.
Through their work, they carve out safer, affirming spaces for women, trans, non-binary and 2 Spirited folks to explore and express themselves authentically.

Tell us more and yourself and what you do…🦹♀️
I’m a non binary lesbian located in Toronto, Canada (happy to travel, though!) and I’ve been doing film photography for about 20 years.

What services do you provide on Sensuali?
I offer photography services for women & queer folks looking to document themselves in a sensual or sexual way.
I have also worked with sex workers to create content for their social media & paysites.

What turns you on?
Confidence and dominance.
What was your journey into this world?
I started photographing other non-binary folks in order to practice my portraiture and one of my subjects was interested in creating some sexier content to accompany their written work about sexuality & gender.
They recommended me to their friends and I went on to meet and photograph other like-minded folks.

What do the first 60 minutes of your day look like?
Feeding my cat, Max, and slowly starting my day with a cup of tea and one of my many to-do lists.
Why do you do what you do?
Photography is still a cis-male dominated industry and there are countless horror stories about boundaries & consent not being respected. I want to create a safe space for women, trans, non-binary, & 2 Spirited folks to feel comfortable being filthy.
My goal is always to help folks feel confident diving into this part of themselves.

What is an unexpected pleasure you discovered in your work?
The wholesome-ness of seeing people excited to try something new, meeting new people who are now close pals, and documenting genuine queer sexuality within my community.
What’s your superpower?
Making people laugh with my silly jokes & puns.
