So you’re curious about kink and BDSM – maybe more than curious – but the scene feels like a foreign country where everyone else already knows the language, the customs, and the unwritten rules. Where do you even start? Who do you trust? What do you actually need to know before you play?

This isn’t a BDSM 101 class. This is the honest conversation we wish someone had had with us before we started. Between us, we carry decades of experience in kink, rope, power exchange, coaching, and education – and with that experience comes a long list of mistakes, close calls, and hard-won lessons we want to share so you don’t have to learn them the painful way (unless that’s your thing).

What we’ll cover

We’ll talk openly about the realities of entering the kink and BDSM world—the exciting parts and the parts nobody warns you about. Together we’ll explore how to find events, communities, and spaces that are right for you; how to identify and vet potential play partners; how to recognize red flags (and green ones); and how to take care of yourself before, during, and after play.

We’ll also get practical, through guided exercises, you’ll practice the communication and consent skills that form the foundation of everything good in kink – from articulating your desires and boundaries to negotiating a scene. We’ll cover the basics of pain management and what you need to know about navigating power dynamics safely, whether you’re drawn to topping, bottoming, switching, or you have no idea yet.

Solo-Friendly Structure

This workshop is designed specifically with individual participants in mind. You do not need to bring a partner, and no prior experience is required.

Exercises will be facilitated in ways that allow everyone to participate comfortably – through discussion, reflection, and optional partnered communication practice. Any interactive exercises will happen in rotating pairs or small groups, so no one is left out or placed on the spot.

Participation is always fully consent-based and opt-in. You are welcome to observe, step back, or decline any exercise at any time. There will be no nudity and no sexual play during the workshop.

Our goal is to create a space where curiosity, questions, and learning can happen without pressure, expectations, or performance.

The Experts: Saara Rei & Ena Dahl

Saara Rei is a Berlin-based performance artist, kinbaku practitioner, workshop facilitator, and educator with over 15 years of experience in Shibari and the wider kink world. She teaches internationally on topics ranging from rope bondage to shame and power play, and hosts the podcast Model Behaviour. → saararei.com
