In this interview, Lisbon-based somatic intimacy coach Cora Souza talks about her journey from innovation and experience design to founding Fusie, a practice helping couples rebuild desire and emotional connection. She explains why long-term relationships don't have to go numb, and why she believes intimacy, like everything else worth having, is something you can learn.

After a decade designing experiences for technology companies, Cora Souza realised the most transformative connection we can create isn’t a product, it’s between two people.

Now based in Lisbon, the Brazilian intimacy coach runs Fusie, a practice helping individuals and couples rebuild desire, pleasure and emotional safety through somatic coaching. In this interview, Cora talks about why relationships don’t have to go numb, what she learned from listening to clients, and why anticipation is her biggest turn on.

Tell us more about yourself…

Cora

I’m Cora Souza, a Somatic Intimacy Coach based in Lisbon, Portugal, and the founder of Fusie, a space dedicated to helping individuals and couples reconnect with desire, pleasure, emotional safety and embodied intimacy.

People often describe me as funny, light-hearted, warm, welcoming and naturally sensual. I think those parts of me are deeply present in my work. I’ve always had an ease around conversations about sexuality, desire and relationships — not from a place of shock or performance, but from genuine curiosity about what makes people feel alive, connected and free.

Living between Brazilian, American and European cultures has also made me very aware of how differently people relate to intimacy.

I see how much shame, silence, cultural conditioning and lack of education can shape the way people communicate, desire and experience pleasure.

I became an intimacy coach because I know how deeply relationships impact every area of our lives. I want to help people realise that relationships can be healthier, more honest, more sensual and more alive, even after years together.

We learn how to walk, speak, read, write, work and build a life. We learn almost everything we do. So why do we assume that relating, desiring and experiencing pleasure should not also deserve attention, practice and learning?

Iso

What is your work title?

Cora

My formal training title is Somatica Sex and Relationship Coach, but I usually describe myself as a Somatic Intimacy Coach. I prefer this because it creates more space for what the work truly is. It is not only about sex positions, techniques or accessories. It is about the body, desire, emotional safety, pleasure, communication, boundaries and the way we relate to ourselves and each other.

Iso

What price do your sessions or experiences start from?

Cora

Single sessions start at €97, online sessions receive a 10% discount. And I offer journeys and session packs.

Iso

What turns you on?

Cora

I love sensuality, beauty, aesthetics and that feeling of heat. Not only romantic heat, but the kind of passion that makes the room feel charged, you know?

I’m extremely visual, so warm colours, low lighting, beautiful lingerie, textures, accessories and an intentional atmosphere already awaken some sparks in me.

What really turns me on is ANTICIPATION.

That delicious tension of “wanting and not being able to have it yet”. A soft touch on the back of the neck. A deep voice close to my ear. Sustained eye contact. A firm touch. And a hot, passionate Brazilian kiss (if you know, you know. And if you don’t, you are missing out lol).

Iso

What was your journey into this world?

Cora

My journey into this work did not start in a clinical office. It began in the fast-paced world of innovation, technology and experience design.

For over a decade, I worked with innovation and experience design, helping companies understand how people connect with experiences, brands and change. But along the way, I realised that the most transformative experience we can ever design is not a product. It is the connection between two people.

Life also brought me through my own cycles of high-performance stress, immigration, personal loss and relationship challenges.

I saw firsthand how easily the autopilot of daily life can silence the body and dim desire, even when love is still present.

That led me to study intimacy, sexuality, relationships and somatic approaches more deeply, including training with the Somatica® Institute in the US. Eventually, I founded Fusie as a space where intimacy is treated as something alive, embodied and learnable. Now I design intimacy experiences!

Iso

What do the first 60 minutes of your day look like?

Cora

I love slow mornings. Of course, not every day allows that. Some days begin immediately with messages, meetings and a full schedule. But whenever I can, I try to start gently.

I turn off my alarm, listen to a meditation or something that helps me set a positive tone for the day, then put on music depending on what my body is asking for. I make breakfast, prepare tea, and go to the terrace to feel the sun for a few minutes, with a view of the Tagus River. I absolutely love this!

That can easily take almost 60 minutes. After that, I check my phone, catch up on messages and get ready for the gym or for work.

Iso

Why do you do what you do?

Cora

Because I believe intimacy and pleasure make people better: softer, kinder, more alive and more generous with themselves and others.

Many people carry shame, pressure, resentment, routine or silence, and think something is wrong with them. Often, they simply never learned how to create safety, communicate desire or stay connected through change.

I chose to work especially with couples because we live in a time of very disposable relationships.

Sometimes relationships do need to end, but often people change partners without understanding their own patterns, and the same dynamics appear again.

So, this work also transformed my own relationship, which I deeply cherish. Not because it is perfect — I don’t believe perfect relationships exist — but because it is real. We are constantly learning and evolving, while choosing to build a relationship with love, passion and pleasure. That is why I believe so deeply that intimacy can be created, nurtured and rediscovered throughout life. But that is only possible with awareness, courage and care.

Iso

What is an unexpected pleasure you discovered in your work?

Cora

I always knew I loved talking about sex, intimacy and relationships. But through this work, I discovered how much I love listening.

There is something very powerful about witnessing someone become comfortable enough to say something they have never said out loud before. I love seeing people open, soften, laugh, feel relief, reclaim desire or discover a more alive version of themselves.

Iso

What should more people know about your work?

Cora

That intimacy coaching is not about performing better. It is about feeling more, understanding more and relating more honestly.

One of the things I value deeply in the somatic approach is that we do not only talk about challenges. We practise new possibilities in session. Through guided exercises, body awareness and relational practices, clients can actually feel what safety, boundaries, communication, desire or connection are like in their bodies.

This experiential element is very powerful.

It is often much easier to learn through the body than to simply receive advice and try to replicate it alone later.

I also think it is important to clarify that my work does not involve nudity or any sexual involvement between coach and client. The intimacy field has many niches and approaches, and I respect that. But my focus is on helping individuals and couples deepen their own connection. Especially with couples, I want this work to feel safe, professional and supportive — never like a threat to the relationship.

Iso

What’s your superpower?

Cora

This is a hard question, because it is often easier to talk about our flaws than our qualities, isn’t it?

But I think my superpower is making people feel comfortable and welcome, no matter what they bring into the room. Maybe it comes from Brazilian warmth, maybe from intuition, maybe from genuine curiosity — but I have a natural ability to create spaces where people feel less judged and more human.

I can bring lightness to serious conversations, sensuality without vulgarity, and depth without making everything feel heavy.

Iso

We love vices. What’s yours?

Cora

Netflix, for sure. Comfort food. Pizza, sometimes I literally dream about it! Going to the beach. Beautiful sunsets. Staying in the sun for “just five more minutes”, and then turning red.

Iso

Who are your sensual inspirations?

Cora

I have many, and I have to confess: they are quite earthly, pop culture and Hollywood-inspired. And I think that is perfectly fine!

As a child, I was fascinated by the Pussycat Dolls. Then came Christina Aguilera, especially in Burlesque. Later, films and series like Fifty Shades of Grey, 365 Days and Outlander opened my imagination to different flavours of desire: tension, mystery, power, surrender, romance, drama and heat.

But, if I had to choose three sensual icons nowadays, I would probably say Megan Fox, Deborah Secco and Anitta. Megan Fox has a very direct, magnetic sensuality that I find visually powerful. Deborah Secco, in Brazil, has always spoken about sexuality with a naturalness that I admire. And Anitta is, of course, the diva. She represents Brazilian sensuality internationally, but also strategy, ambition, spirituality and a very conscious use of her own influence.

For me, sensual inspiration does not need to be overly philosophical.

Sometimes it comes from music videos, movies, dance, confidence, a look, a deep breath, a body in motion, or a woman who knows exactly the energy she brings into a room!

Closing thoughts?

Cora

My final thoughts:

I believe intimacy is one of the most honest mirrors we have.

The way we touch, avoid, desire, communicate, shut down, ask, receive and protect ourselves says so much about who we are and what we have lived.

But I also believe intimacy can be relearned, desire can be awakened, safety can be built, pleasure can expand, and long-term relationships do not have to become cold, numb or purely functional.

Desire cannot be demanded, it is created through priority, safety and novelty. And intimacy becomes alive again when people feel safe enough to truly be seen, felt and desired.
