You might never have imagined the word sploshing to be associated with sex, but guess what? It is! And it’s pretty popular. Here’s what it means.

What is sploshing?

Also known as wet and messy fetishism or WAM, sploshing is the act of incorporating especially messy substances into sex, usually by rubbing generous amounts of the substance into the skin, face, and sometimes even clothing.

What substances are used in sploshing?

In sploshing, all sorts of  gooey substances are used, such as slime, shaving foam or body lotion. But food is also very commonly used. Popular sploshing foods include cake, cream, syrups, bananas…the list goes on. For the ultra-pervs, even bad-smelling food is used. Think dog food or fishy substances…many get a kick out of seeing somebody sploshed with these sorts of foods as it emphasises the element of degradation or humiliation that can be a big part of the sploshing appeal.

The typical idea of sploshing is the food being totally rubbed into the skin and covering the person. However, sploshing can also look differently to that. A common sploshing sub-category is ‘cake sitting’ where people get a thrill from sitting their naked body onto a freshly chilled cake. Who’d a thought it?

What’s hot about sploshing?

There’s definitely something hot about rubbing liquidy substances onto your body. Take massage oil for example, which is a common substance used in sex. The ‘wetness’ is simply something we all associate with arousal and the touch of it on our skin just feels good. Think back to childhood – it’s very natural for us to be drawn to substances like slime and goo.

When it comes to food specifically, it’s just got that messier, dirtier edge that something like body oil doesn’t have. It’s more playful, childlike, and naughty. It feels like a rebellion against all of the social conditioning we’ve been brought up with. Plus, it’s edible (!)

Others find an exciting element of humiliation in sploshing. The idea of having a pie thrown into your face is something we’ve seen in our entertainment culture for years as a form of punishment. So, sploshing can be incorporated into BDSM too. Sploshing recently made it big on TikTok, and ever since it’s a fetish that continues to grow.
